Category:Disputed chemical diagrams

[edit]

I notice that you recently created Category:Incorrect chemical structures. Perhaps it could be merged into the older Category:Disputed chemical diagrams. They both seem to be intended for the same purpose and I think it would be easier to have just one category to track chemistry images with errors. What do you think? Ed (Edgar181) 14:31, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Of course, I was not aware of this ancient category. Thanks for pointing out. Mykhal (talk) 14:48, 16 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Ae editor in Debian Potato.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. Not sure what the license should be. It's of an app from old UNIX, which was commercial, but it was reportedly also present in e.g. 2.11BSD. So I'll hotfix it by using BSD license. But it's just a screenshot. —mykhal (talk) 19:15, 29 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
So Ciell has deleted it, despite it was relatively trivial image (screenshot of reconstructed old text game, which was by itself non-original), its preparation took non-trivial work by me, and related license was added. —mykhal (talk) 06:25, 9 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

The Flickr Image uploader according to my (tiny) experience refuses to proceed if license is unsuitable, and the source web page license part links to https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0/deed.en, so it seems it should be OK, not sure if the uploader has some temporary issues not completely filling the data … —mykhal (talk) 17:21, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

eSIM Card (physical eSIM)

[edit]

Hi Mykhal, beside the name eSIM (=embedded SIM) an eSIM must not be embedded (soldered) on a PCB. It can be solderd, if it is plain chip. There are plenty of eSIM cards as nao/micro/mini card available on the market. An eSIM card can be used by (mostly) any phone in the SIM slot. For details see manfucator pages like https://www.eiotclub.com/products/physical-esim-card . It's a little bit confusing with the term "e - embedded". To only and main difference to a "standard SIM card" (UUIC) is: Every eSIM (embedded or as physical card) is programmable or configurable - which a UICC is not.--Wdwd (talk) 19:13, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Remark: If you dont believe me and think that this eSIM cards are only marketing term which does exist in real: No. Please read the GSMA standard SGP.22-v2.2.2.pdf, page 8 in the line for eUICC: "A removable (!) or non-removable UICC which enables the remote and/or local management of Profiles in a secure way.". The eUUIC can also be eSIM card (or something else), according the the standard, and is not always be embedded (not removable) in a device.--Wdwd (talk) 19:25, 7 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mykhal. I noticed that a deletion request you made was not done correctly.

This is not an unusual mistake, but I'm leaving you this message to help you get this right in the future.

There are several steps to making a deletion request (DR) correctly; among other things you must transclude the deletion into the correct daily DR list, and to notify the page creator and optionally other human (non-bot) editors of the page. By far the easiest way to do all of this correctly is to use the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests, which takes care of all that using vetted Javascript. If you prefer to add the {{Delete}} template or {{Category for discussion}} template manually, you are required to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed). Again, though, there is no need to follow complex instructions if you use the automatic tools.

Also worth knowing: on Commons, {{Delete}} is not a "speedy delete" request like it is on many other projects; instead, it starts a discussion of whether the file should be deleted. If you think a particular media file really obviously does not belong on Commons, see the instructions at Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion. Common cases that are better handled with a speedy delete than a DR include:

Common bad reasons people have for making DRs in the first place include:

  • after renaming a category, trying to delete the resulting redirect in violation of policy COM:CATRED
  • making a DR for a file where there is already a current DR
  • trying to delete one's own work within 7 days (use {{G7}} instead)
  • placing {{Delete}} on the deletion subpage itself, or on a talk page.

Also, please don't use {{Ffd}} (that's an English Wikipedia thing).

If you have further questions about the deletion process, you can ask them at COM:Help desk or COM:Village pump.  — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:53, 31 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Jeff G.: Thanks for the information. But it's obviously mistaken and unimportant redir, and I did not want to undergo a complicated procedure because of it. Obviously it was noticed, so in some sense, it worked. Regards, —Mykhal (talk) 15:58, 31 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
