Gretchen Whitmer has <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickondetroit.com\/news\/local\/2020\/04\/29\/michigan-construction-to-resume-may-7-detroit-regional-chamber-says\/\">signed an executive order to resume construction<\/a><\/strong>, real estate and other outdoor jobs starting Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Whitmer extended the state of emergency through May 28, but she\u2019s now reopening certain types of work that are typically outdoors and have a low risk of spreading the coronavirus (COVID-19), she announced in a release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe vast majority of Michiganders are still doing their part to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19. That\u2019s good, but we must keep it up,\u201d Whitmer said. \u201cAs part of our MI Safe Start Plan, we are bringing business and labor leaders together to ensure that while we lift some restrictions on the previous Stay Home, Stay Safe order, we are also protecting workers and their families from the spread of this virus.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to be clear: We must all continue to stay home and stay safe as much as possible. Michigan residents are required to stay in their homes unless they\u2019re running critical errands, spending time outdoors or traveling to specified jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe data shows that we\u2019re ready to lift some of these restrictions while also encouraging Michiganders to continue doing their part under the governor\u2019s Stay Home, Stay Safe order,\u201d said MDHHS Chief Deputy for Health and Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun. \u201cThe steps the governor is taking today will help ensure protections for workers and their families from COVID-19 while allowing for work in lower-risk fields to resume.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful for the governor\u2019s commitment to protecting working people and their families from the spread of COVID-19,\u201d said Pat Devlin, Secretary Treasurer of the Michigan Building and Construction Trades Council. \u201cOur dedicated building tradesmen and women are ready to get back to work, and we\u2019re glad the governor has taken steps today to help ensure their safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whitmer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickondetroit.com\/news\/local\/2020\/04\/24\/michigan-gov-gretchen-whitmer-extends-stay-at-home-order-with-loosened-restrictions\/\"><strong>extended Michigan\u2019s stay-at-home order last week<\/strong><\/a>, but loosened restrictions on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clickondetroit.com\/news\/local\/2020\/04\/28\/landscapers-greeneries-getting-back-in-business-after-coronavirus-restrictions-lightened\/\"><strong>businesses such as landscaping<\/strong><\/a>, golf and boating.<\/p>\n<p>The current version of the stay-at-home order is in effect through May 15.
