Home construction comes to a halt during COVID-19 pandemic<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

(WXYZ) \u2014 Many construction projects in metro Detroit have come to halt because of the Coronavirus. Companies have been forced to lay-off hundreds of hard working employees.<\/p>\n

And some families, who thought they would be moving into homes, will not.<\/p>\n

When you turn that key and walk through the door, that is when the house begins to become a home, a place to start traditions and a family.<\/p>\n

But COVID-19 has stopped that dream for so many people.<\/p>\n

And some families, who thought they would be moving into homes, will not.<\/p>\n

When you turn that key and walk through the door, that is when the house begins to become a home, a place to start traditions and a family.<\/p>\n

But COVID-19 has stopped that dream for so many people.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cThat has to stop to protect the public health, that makes a lot of sense, but it affects a lot of people,\u201d says Michael Stoskopf, CEO of the Home Builders Association of South Eastern Michigan.<\/p>\n

Construction companies have laid off scores of employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf we get some help, we\u2019ll hire our people back if they want to come back. I don\u2019t want to lose them. You know, it took us a long time to get them,\u201d says Nick Canzano, President of the Canzano Contracting Corporation in Livonia.<\/p>\n

He has applied for financial assistance. but has not heard anything yet.<\/p>\n

However, Stoskopf says there is a plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo try to provide the governor a responsible, safe path. So that we can do construction, help the families achieve the stability that they want. But do it in a manner that is not going to prolong or aggravate the current COVID-19 crisis,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

When you talk about COVID-19, there are so many stories. People have lost their lives, loved ones are mourning, people have lost their jobs, and some are in the middle of losing a dream.<\/p>\n
