{"id":2193,"date":"2020-03-27T09:21:46","date_gmt":"2020-03-27T13:21:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.construction.com\/newsroom_details_pag\/school-construction-still-on-tap-for-fall\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T09:49:23","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T13:49:23","slug":"school-construction-still-on-tap-for-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.construction.com\/reports\/school-construction-still-on-tap-for-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"School construction still on tap for fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>School construction still scheduled for fall<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HERMISTON \u2014 Hermiston School District still intends to start construction of its new schools this fall, despite the economic blow to the country dealt by COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Thursday, the district touted the jobs the projects will bring, paid for by the $82.7 million bond voters passed in November 2019 and a $6.7 million grant from the Oregon Department of Education. Superintendent Tricia Mooney said the statement was not intended to downplay the district\u2019s concern over the public health crisis, and the district\u2019s primary focus was still the well-being of its students, staff and community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the Hermiston community has a track record of working together for the common good,\u201d she said. \u201cThis community will emerge from this crisis stronger, and the District is fully intending to leverage the valuable role of the bond projects to deliver on the commitment to the common good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The architectural firm BBT Architects is currently designing the project, which includes replacement of Rocky Heights Elementary School with a larger building, a new annex for Hermiston High School and a new elementary school on Theater Lane.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is slated to start on the new Rocky Heights building this fall. Construction has been deemed \u201cessential\u201d work by Gov. Kate Brown during the COVID-19 closures.<\/p>\n<p>The Bond Project Team, which includes the administration, BBT Architects and project manager Wenaha Group, plans to keep the public informed on the bond project schedule, which \u201cwill allow Hermiston contractors, subcontractors, tradespeople, suppliers, and hospitality businesses, visibility to the project schedule, and in turn business opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>School construction still scheduled for fall HERMISTON \u2014 Hermiston School District still intends to start construction of its new schools this fall, despite the economic blow to the country dealt by COVID-19.
