{"id":2174,"date":"2020-03-26T09:36:28","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T13:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.construction.com\/newsroom_details_pag\/some-sites-continue-work-despite-concerns\/"},"modified":"2025-08-07T09:49:25","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T13:49:25","slug":"some-sites-continue-work-despite-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.construction.com\/reports\/some-sites-continue-work-despite-concerns\/","title":{"rendered":"Some sites continue work despite concerns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Some construction sites still operating in Miami-Dade County despite coronavirus concerns<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 The Miami-Dade County skyline is always dotted with construction cranes.<\/p>\n<p>But right now, in spite of an order for all nonessential businesses to be closed and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2020\/03\/24\/coronavirus-miami-dade-limits-gatherings-to-10-people\/\">public gatherings being limited to 10 people or less<\/a> due to the COVID-19 pandemic, construction sites around the county are still buzzing.<\/p>\n<p>The question is, why?<\/p>\n<p>Local 10 News took that directly to Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, who said currently, they are an exception to the rule, but that may not last much longer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are essential,&#8221; said Gimenez. &#8220;The order said they are essential and so they are allowed to run but they have to maintain social distancing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like grocery stores and pharmacies, construction sites are exempt from the order to shut down, but they are being watched closely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we will be going to construction sites and enforcing that on a site-by-site basis,\u201d said Gimenez. Some sites are doing fine, some sites are not doing fine. I\u2019m not going to put a blanket order to close everything but those businesses and those sites that are not compliant with the order, we will shut them down.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local 10 News also spoke with a few people working at some of the sites visited on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Managers said they\u2019re doing their best to provide places for workers to wash their hands and keep their distance.<\/p>\n<p>But at least one worker, who didn\u2019t want to be identified, said that really wasn\u2019t the case; not enough was being done and he has actually decided to stop coming to work, until this all blows over.<\/p>\n<p>If you work at a construction site and see violations or have concerns that a site or other business is not following the county order, you can call 305-4-POLICE to report it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some construction sites still operating in Miami-Dade County despite coronavirus concerns MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. \u2013 The Miami-Dade County skyline is always dotted with construction cranes.
