But a 4% drop in residential construction activity last month wiped out gains for the building market.<\/p>\n<p>About $1.8 billion in projects were started in the area.<\/p>\n<p>January\u2019s flat building starts follow a slight decline in construction activity for all of 2019, according to Dodge Data.<\/p>\n<p>North Texas was still the second-busiest building market in the country last year, with almost $22.5 billion in construction.<\/p>\n<p>Only New York City had more building starts in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>It was the fourth year in a row that construction in D-FW topped $20 billion, according to Dodge Data.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.construction.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/NHYIZUVGEBDRHL76EGVAZFWWMU.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n(January construction starts totals.(Dodge Data &#038; Analytics))<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dallas-Fort Worth building starts were flat in January Commercial construction rose 5% from a year ago.
